We are proud to be the only organization in Sri Lanka that has processed a mineral sand to end user (complete value addition), which stands acceptable to the international and local markets
Sri Lanka’s beaches contain good quality heavy mineral sands deposits. Of these minerals Zirconium sand is currently mined, purified and exported without any further value addition.
Sri Lanka’s tile and ceramic industry imports micronized zirconium silicate with an out flow of foreign exchange. Furthermore substantial inflow of foreign exchange can be achieved through exports of value added Zirconium products.
We, Olecmo Mineral and Processing Company Private Limited, have the knowledge and the capability in processing and manufacturing value added Zirconium products.

Mineral Sand Deposits
The heavy mineral sand deposits in Sri Lanka represent a most promising and profitable future resources for the country, the currently available deposits are in Pulmudai, comprising of 4 million metric tons of crude heavy mineral sand. The Mahawali estuarine and monsoon deposits convey 15% annually, replenishing the deposits of the major stock. The crude heavy mineral sand contains 60% to 70% of heavy minerals of the following composition.
In addition there are number of beach and sub marine deposits located at southern coastal areas such as Beruwela, Hambantota and Puttalam coastal area also contains good quality heavy mineral sands deposits.
Compared to the world standards Sri Lankan mineral sands are pure and contains very low quantities of Chromium and Phosphate impurities which are a major hazard in Australian and South African resources. The foreign exchange that could be saved by servicing the Sri Lankan market and the potential to earn foreign exchange by manufacturing value added Zircon products amasses to millions of dollars.
